Happy Birthday Rod Serling! The Twilight Zone creator was born on this day in 1924. Growing up in Binghamton, New York, he enlisted in the Army in 1943, after graduating high school. Serling took part in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and the invasion of the Philippines. Wounded multiple times, his wartime experiences would permeate many of his Twilight Zone scripts (he would write over 90 scripts for the series). Serling’s pre-Twilight-Zone work included “Requiem for a Heavyweight” (for which he won a Peabody Award) and “In the Presence of Mine Enemies” (a drama set in the Warsaw Ghetto during WWII).
A true legend of television and science fiction, Serling died in 1975, at the age of 50.
For those interested, there will be a Twilight Zone marathon on Syfy on 12-31-11.
Also, I wonder what the the judgment ended up being, on the story in the upper right of the picture?
